Another lie-in - we'll have to watch out for those or we won't be wanting to get up for work when we get off holiday!

We had to go to Ginza this morning as a shop we hadn't seen for nearly two weeks and 6,000 miles was opening in Ginza 4. It was the newest branch of Boots the chemist, and had nearly the same content as its hundreds of counterparts back home. Even so, there were Japanese touches - like the numerous TV screens and inane music playing the whole time.

After Ginza we hopped onto the tube again. Destination: Asakusa. We were going there for two reasons: to get a plastic food display as a present for Didge (on the grounds that although she may never eat Japanese food in her life it wouldn't harm her to have some to look at...), but the good stuff was outrageously expensive so we kicked that idea in the head and walked east to the river and our second reason for coming to Asakusa.

The second reason was to take a cruise down the river to Tokyo Bay, but we got sidetracked by a pretty arcade leading to Sensoo-ji - a temple we'd decided against seeing on the grounds of already extant religious overload. We walked up the arcade, grazing for presents and got a nice selection of stuff for the folks in Bath and then headed for the river.

At this point, I'd like to mention the fact that I had said to Fiona that morning that I thought it would rain, and, sure enough, as we leapt onto the boat heading for the harbour it started tipping down. Amazing true story of telepathic gifts!!!! It was a lovely boat ride all the same - down past the Phillipe Starck-designed "Golden Turd" building and under bridges of numerous different designs, but we didn't manage to do the harbour trip too because we'd missed the last boat. Instead, laden down with presents as we were, we decided to return to lovely Ikebukuro and have a nice meal. When we got out of the station, the rain was now being poured from the sky so we didn't linger as intended in the Metropolitan Art Space, we dashed for the hotel instead. There's always tomorrow...
