As I sit here writing this we've been in the air for ten hours. We're on a BA flight, in seats that are far too cramped - but then that's Bob Ayling's greed for you.
You may, dear reader, be wondering what we're doing on a direct BA flight to Heathrow rather than our scheduled flight with Air France via Paris CDG. The answer lies in the fact that the fuckwits at Air France managed to overbook our flight, and even though we'd bought and paid for our flight in August, we were asked if we wouldn't mind flying with BA instead. Verdict? I still really hate flying with what may well be the "World's favourite airline" but is definitely not "Ben's favourite airline", although most of the cabin crew have been a cut above the usual surly mob that mans BA's planes, and we did get to go up to the cockpit.
Because of our change of flight schedule, we also changed our onward itinerary, which means that Didge should be picking us up from Heathrow and taking us back to Westgate tonight. That is, she should if she remembers the phone call at what would have been 4AM for her, but was midday for us. Time for us to get used to GMT+1 again. By Fiona's calculation we will have been awake for more than 24 hours by the time we get back to Westgate-on-Sea and we shall no doubt be very weary as we hand out pressies...
